October 28, 2024

The Tapas Rum & Wine event, sponsored by Republic Bank, provided an exciting platform for culinary specialists to showcase their skills, with six local chefs presenting a fusion of exquisite dishes paired with premium wines and rum.

This marked the third iteration of the event, which not only highlighted the talents of Guyanese chefs but also promoted the country as a world-class tourism destination.

It offered a unique space for chefs and mixologists to network, create new business partnerships, and contribute to Guyana’s growing hospitality sector.

Industry professionals spoke about the importance of such events in expanding the country’s culinary reputation.

Jon Madhar of Ambrosia Restaurant emphasized the role of hospitality in the nation’s development, while Edgar Navarro, Head Chef at Marriott Hotel, discussed the global appeal of Guyanese food.

Ruritanya Bhudu, owner of Romeo Bravo Logistics, highlighted the quality of locally grown ingredients, while Alex Persaud of Wine Fault underscored the significance of pairing local flavors with fine wines.

In addition to showcasing the culinary scene, Baunce Atkinson, Marketing Coordinator at the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), shared plans to make the event an annual occurrence, further establishing Guyana as a hub for culinary tourism.

Tourism Minister Oneidge Walrond encouraged local restaurants to elevate their offerings to match Guyana’s unique and diverse cuisine.
