The Education Minister, Priya Manickchand, has announced that the restriction on the number of subjects students can sit for at the CXC CSEC exams has been lifted in several schools.
Previously, some senior secondary schools limited students to a specific number of subjects based on the streams offered, such as science, business, or art.
This restriction has now been removed, allowing students to take as many subjects as they qualify for.
Minister Manickchand stated that this change applies to schools such as Bishop’s, Saints, Roses, and Joseph’s, which are now mandated to adjust their timetables to accommodate students who wish to sit for multiple subjects.
This move aims to provide students with a broader understanding of various subjects, with some students already taking and passing 20 or more subjects.
While acknowledging that not every student may choose to take such a large number of subjects, the Minister emphasized the importance of allowing eligible students the opportunity to do so.
