Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh has urged graduates of the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School to embrace opportunities in a rapidly evolving economy.

He was speaking at the school’s graduation ceremony, where 113 students were recognized for successfully completing their secondary education.

Minister Singh reminded the graduating class that between 2020 and 2025, more than 156,000 new jobs were created in Guyana, many of which required new skill sets and the use of emerging technologies.

Building on this, he urged the graduates to position themselves to take advantage of these opportunities by developing their technological skills, sharpen their use of AI and remain adaptable as the world of work continues to evolve.

“Today with a world where technology is literally doing tasks that previously were unimaginable and unthinkable. You are growing up in a world, you are maturing in a world, you are entering the world of higher education and the professional world, the world of work at a time when the world has at its disposal and you have at your disposal technological power that no previous generation of human being have ever had,” he said.


Meanwhile, Dr. Singh said the goal is not only to produce students who achieve strong CSEC results, but to develop well-rounded citizens equipped to lead, contribute to society and play a meaningful role in building the nation.

“Our aim is to produce good citizens, people with the right values, people with the right orientation, people with right motivation, people who understand how important it is to be committed to building your countryand making your country a better place,” he explained.
J.C. Chandisingh Secondary recorded an 80.20 percent overall pass rate, with 192 Grade Ones and a matriculation rate of 62.50 percent. 

CSEC participation more than doubled, rising from 53 students last year to 113 this year. 

Sophia Mohamed emerged as this year’s valedictorian gaining12 Grade Ones, six Grade Twos and one Grade Three.
