Croal updates on housing development

– At Providence-Glasgow, Region 6

Persons who were allocated house lots in the Providence-Glasgow Housing Development in Region Six are expected to identify their respective lots by the end of November.

This was disclosed by Minister of Housing Collin Croal, who visited several housing developments across the region earlier today, engaging contractors and assessing ongoing works.

The Providence-Glasgow Housing Development is being designed to accommodate approximately 1,800 residential lots across more than 650 acres.

The Government has committed an estimated $9.3 billion towards infrastructure development, covering the construction of roads, drainage systems, bridges and pipe networks.

Of the 17 infrastructure lots contracted for development, works on 14 have advanced to the stage where survey pegs can be installed.

This will facilitate the surveying process and pave the way for allottees to begin identifying their respective house lots.

“It therefore means that, except those three lots, persons that have been allocated here will be able to access and be shown their lot before the month of November is finished,” he said.

At the Overwinning Housing Development, infrastructure works are expected to be completed within the next two weeks, paving the way for allottees to begin identifying their respective house lots.

Meanwhile, tenders have been invited for the construction of two wells under the Central Housing and Planning Authority to support the development.

At the Palmyra Housing Development, construction is ongoing on 210 homes, while another 100 houses have been completed and are awaiting electricity connections before they can be occupied.
“We’re happy about this. This is bring development to this area. This entire area for the residential is catering for the construction of houses. So as we respond, as the beneficiary comes in and as we speak there are allocations that are happening, we will be continuing to build,” he added.
Meanwhile, construction of a truck parking facility at Smithson’s Place, Palmyra, is approximately 65 percent complete.

The 30-acre facility is intended to provide truck operators with a secure parking area, reducing the need for heavy-duty vehicles to park along public roads and helping to prevent road damage caused by prolonged parking.

The facility is expected to be completed by January 2027.
