Starting this today, Main Street, Georgetown will be transformed into a delectable haven as the Cricket Carnival regional food festival kicks off.
This three-day event promises a gastronomic adventure with an array of delectable dishes from various Caribbean countries complementing Guyana’s distinct cuisine.
Kemie Williams, the Event Officer at the Ministry of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, emphasized that food is a universal language that brings people together, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere. This year’s festival aims to highlight the culinary expertise of the participating regions. The event will feature a diverse range of cuisines including Surinamese, Trinidadian, Cuban, and Venezuelan, with efforts still underway to include Jamaican cuisine.
Williams anticipates that this year’s regional food festival will surpass the previous editions in both scale and quality, offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with lively colors and captivating music. Each day of the event will feature entertainment, including African drama, live music by a guitarist and saxophonist, ensuring a lively experience for all attendees.
Security measures have also been put in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. Main Street will be monitored with a visible police presence throughout the duration of the festival.
