With Mashramani celebrations approaching on February 23, artistic designers and costume builders are in the final stages of preparing elaborate pieces for the annual event.
A recent visit to several Mash camps revealed extensive work underway, with teams focused on sewing, sketching, and assembling designs to reflect this year’s theme, “Expression, Creativity, and One Guyana.”
Costume designers are incorporating elements that align with the objectives of various government ministries.
Some designs highlight Guyana’s musical culture and achievements in sports, while others focus on environmental preservation and land reclamation.
There is also a strong emphasis on theatre arts and self-expression for children, as well as themes related to national heritage.
Workspaces within the Mash camps are filled with colorful fabrics, intricate sketches, and partially completed costumes, with designers and artisans collaborating to perfect each detail.
The preparations are expected to result in a visually striking display on Mashramani Day when revelers take to the streets in full costume to celebrate Guyana’s rich culture.
Mashramani remains one of the country’s most anticipated annual events, and the ongoing preparations indicate a grand showcase of artistic creativity and national pride.
