CPL CEO Expresses Optimism Amid Guyana-Venezuela Border Controversy

CEO of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Pete Russell

Pete Russell, the CEO of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), remains optimistic that the ongoing border controversy between Guyana and Venezuela will not impact the final phase of the 2024 tournament, including the scheduled final to be held in Guyana.

Despite the increasing tensions between the two nations, Russell believes it is too early to determine if CPL organizers will need to reconsider their plans.

Guyana has been selected by CPL to host the final of the tournament from 2022 to 2024.

While acknowledging the geopolitical situation, Russell hopes that the tournament’s plans will proceed as scheduled.

The CPL, typically played between August and September, has become a significant sporting event in the Caribbean.

The Guyana-based franchise, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, secured their first CPL title in 2023 by defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders in the final at Providence Stadium in Guyana.

As preparations for the 2024 tournament unfold, stakeholders will closely monitor developments to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted event.
