A tragic hit-and-run accident in Corentyne has claimed the life of Simone Thompson, a 45-year-old domestic worker of Cromarty Farm, Berbice.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday at around 8 a.m., when Thompson was struck by a speeding car while standing on the public road and conversing with a friend.

The driver of the motorcar, identified as #PHH 4644, was reportedly traveling east at a high speed when the left side of the vehicle collided with Thompson, who was crossing from the northern to the southern side of the road.

The impact caused her to fall to the road’s surface, leaving her severely injured.

Thompson was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by a passerby, but was declared dead upon arrival.

Her daughter, Alisa Burnette, recounted the heartbreaking moment she realized her mother had been hit, stating that Thompson took her last breath at the scene.

The driver, who fled the scene immediately after the accident, remains on the run as police continue their investigation.

The vehicle involved is currently in custody at the Whim Police Station as authorities work to apprehend the suspect.
