In a significant milestone for housing development in Guyana, five families in La Parfaite Harmonie, Region 3, have become proud owners of Core Homes under the ongoing initiative supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The families received keys to their homes during a ceremony held on Friday, marking a transformative moment in their lives.

Helena Duncan, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her joy, emphasizing the fulfillment of owning a home and the ability to care for it according to her wishes.

Sophia Paul echoed similar sentiments, stating her pride after a long wait to finally acquire a home.

Leon Stanford expressed gratitude to the Ministry, IDB, Core Homes Team, and most importantly, to God, for the opportunity.

Each recipient was required to own their land and make a down payment of $100,000 for the two-bedroom homes valued at approximately $5 million each.

These homes are part of the $5.8 billion Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme, which aims to provide affordable housing solutions across Guyana.

Minister within the Housing and Water Ministry, Hon. Susan Rodrigues, highlighted the program’s success in empowering Guyanese through home ownership.

She mentioned that 110 families have already benefitted from the Core Homes initiative, with plans underway to complete an additional 188 homes in the coming months, bringing the total beneficiaries to about 323.

Under this program, beneficiaries not only receive homes but also benefit from housing subsidies and infrastructure upgrades in their communities.

In La Parfaite Harmonie, this includes drainage improvements, road upgrades, installation of street lights, and the development of a community ground.

The Core Homes project remains a cornerstone of the government’s commitment to enhancing living standards and fostering sustainable development across Guyana.
