The long-delayed Conversation Tree Road Project is now on track for completion by the end of October, according to Public Works Minister Juan Edghill.
During a recent site visit, Minister Edghill received an update on the progress of the $1.8 billion project, which is in its final stages.
The site visit aimed to assess the ongoing work and ensure that the project remains on schedule.
Minister Edghill expressed satisfaction with the work done so far, highlighting the dedication of the workers who have gone above and beyond to keep the project on course.
He noted that the project has now reached a crucial stage, with paving completed on the North-South carriageway running to Dennis Street, and ongoing work to widen Dennis Street itself.
Originally, the project faced significant setbacks due to delays by the Trinidadian company Kalco Guyana Inc., which was initially contracted to complete the North-South corridor of the road for $830 million.
Following their failure to meet deadlines, the contract was reassigned to S Jagmohan Construction for $844 million, with an updated completion target of October 29.
Minister Edghill also outlined future plans for the area, including improvements to Dennis Street, which will eventually connect to the Eastern Highway and into Sophia.
These enhancements are expected to provide better traffic flow and connectivity for residents and commuters in the area.
With the final stages of construction underway, the Public Works Ministry is confident that the project will meet its revised deadline, marking a significant development in Guyana’s road infrastructure.
