Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, has terminated the contracts of three defaulting contractors in Region Three, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara.
This decision follows a recent assessment of the affected projects.
One major project affected is the Bendorff to Maripa Access Road, a $55 million contract awarded to JP General Construction and Services on August 2, 2023.
The project, intended to construct a 1,000-metre road, saw only 45% completion.
Local residents, particularly farmers, have expressed their frustration over the incomplete road, which has caused significant logistical challenges.
Another project, the rehabilitation of a bridge connecting Zeelugt North and Tuschen North, along with the First Cross Street (SH) Aracari, has also faced severe delays.
Minister Edghill acknowledged the inconvenience caused to residents and emphasized that immediate measures are being implemented to address these issues.
New contractors will be held to strict timelines to ensure timely completion of the projects.
