Public Works Minister Juan Edghill recently announced penalties for contractors responsible for delayed works on access bridges linking Canal No.1 and Belle Vue.
Minister Edghill, accompanied by Senior Engineer Sherod Parkinson, inspected ongoing projects, including bridges connecting Canal No.1 and Parfaite Harmonie, as well as those at Belle Vue and Belle West, Canal No. 2 on the West Bank.
In response to reasons cited by contractors for the delays, such as utility companies’ lack of cooperation and changes in design approved by the NDIA, Minister Edghill instructed Senior Engineer Sherod Parkinson to enforce liquidated damages, deducting payments for each day projects remain unfinished beyond the specified timeline.
Parkinson indicated an anticipated completion timeline by the end of May or early June for the projects.
Minister Edghill also addressed concerns regarding unsatisfactory road paving in Naamryck Backdam, emphasizing the government’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure to its citizens.
He set a deadline for proper asphalt paving, urging swift action to rectify the issue.
Residents and farmers in the area have been urged to cooperate with contractors to facilitate the timely completion of road works, aligning with the government’s commitment made in 2021 to improve road infrastructure in the Parika Backdam Area and Naamryck.
The announcement reflects ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure across the region and underscores the government’s dedication to fulfilling its promises to the people.
