This year’s post-Mashramani cleanup exercise took a different approach, as the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) outsourced the work to a small contractor rather than handling it internally.
The cleanup, which followed a day of festivities along the Mashramani parade route, was carried out by Rimshaw Contracting and General Supplies.
Director of the Solid Waste Department, Walter Narine, shared details with NCN News, reporting that the contractor performed favorably in managing the cleanup.
According to Narine, the contractor began work from Middle and Main Streets, proceeding towards Church and Irving Streets.
The operation continued early the following morning, ensuring a thorough cleanup of the area.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Ministry of Public Works also supported the initiative by enlisting small contractors to assist in the effort.
Narine highlighted that funds collected from vending along the parade route were allocated to cover the cleanup costs.
Comparing this year’s waste levels to the previous year, Narine noted an increase due to the larger scale of the 2025 celebrations, which extended until approximately 3:00 a.m.
Despite this, the contractor effectively managed the workload, ensuring timely removal of waste.
Regarding the contract award process, Narine revealed that expressions of interest ranged from $6 million to as low as $950,000.
The lowest bid was selected, as officials determined that the cleanup operation should not exceed a cost of $1.2 million.
With successful execution and positive feedback, the outsourced approach to post-Mash cleanup demonstrates a viable model for future large-scale events.
