The Wismar Market in Linden is set to receive a long-anticipated automated teller machine (ATM), with construction expected to commence shortly.
This development follows commitments made in 2023 by Banks DIH and Citizens Bank Guyana Limited to install an ATM at the location.
Speaking during a recent ceremony at the market, Mayor of Linden, Sharma Solomon, expressed satisfaction that the project is finally moving forward.
He revealed that construction will begin immediately after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), scheduled for this weekend.
The mayor highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that with two-thirds of Linden’s population residing in Wismar and no existing financial institution in the area, the installation of an ATM will significantly enhance access to banking services for residents.
Mayor Solomon also emphasized that the presence of the ATM is expected to drive growth at the Wismar Market, attracting more visitors and boosting economic activity.
Plans include the availability of taxi services at the market to further accommodate residents.
The initiative has been warmly welcomed by vendors and residents, particularly senior citizens, who anticipate the convenience the ATM will bring to the community.
This project reflects ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services in Linden, ensuring that financial accessibility is extended to underserved areas.
