Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, holds immense cultural significance and is marked by family reunions, cultural festivities, and the ushering in of a new year with hope and optimism.

Representative of the Confucius Institute, Shaneeza Persaud, highlighted the importance of this year being the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing strength, courage, and good fortune.

At the event, participants engaged in various activities, including Chinese calligraphy, with the character “fu” representing blessings and happiness for the new year.

Attendees shared their excitement about the celebration, expressing joy in trying on traditional clothing and participating in the festivities.

Chinese New Year, following the lunar calendar, begins on February 10th in 2024 and continues for 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival.
