Fatal incident investigation at Aurora Gold Mine

The investigation into the tragic accident at the Aurora Gold Mine on November 18, resulting in the loss of 47-year-old Joseph Licorish’s life, has reached its conclusion.

The joint effort involved the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department of the Ministry of Labour and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).

Joseph Licorish, a driver affiliated with the Aurora Gold Mines, lost his life in a collision with another truck driven by Nigel Denny.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Labour, GGMC, and the Guyana Police Force collaborated for several weeks to uncover the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Ministry of Labour has issued a statement, confirming that the cause(s) of the accident has been determined, and recommendations will be provided to the company to prevent future occurrences.

The investigative team meticulously examined the accident scene, maintenance records, and standard operational procedures.

Eyewitness statements were gathered, and accident prevention training was imparted to maintenance workers, truck drivers, and operators.

The OSH department is currently in the process of analyzing the obtained information to formulate findings and recommendations aimed at averting similar incidents in the future.
