The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) marks its 55th anniversary this week, commemorating its longstanding commitment to building resilient and sustainable health systems globally.

Under the theme “Pharmacists Developing Resilient and Sustainable Health Systems for All,” the CPA reflects on its pivotal role amidst global health challenges.

President Kwame Waldron of the Guyana Pharmacist Association emphasized the critical role pharmacists play in healthcare systems worldwide.

He highlighted the increasing threats such as chronic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and natural disasters, underscoring pharmacists’ pivotal role in ensuring optimal healthcare delivery.

During this anniversary week, Waldron announced focused initiatives on patient education, particularly targeting chronic disease patients across regions including Georgetown, Bartica, Lethem, and Linden.

Pharmacists in these areas will educate patients on safe medication practices and distribute pill boxes to help patients organize their medications effectively.

The highlight of the celebrations will be the 21st edition of the grand convention scheduled for Sunday, June 23, at the Pegasus Corporate Centre, expected to host over 300 pharmacists.

This convention serves as a platform for pharmacists to exchange knowledge, discuss challenges, and strategize on enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.

The CPA’s anniversary underscores its commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and contributing to the resilience and sustainability of healthcare systems globally.
