The Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in child protection during a symposium held as part of Child Protection Week 2024.

The event took place at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre and focused on responses to child abuse cases.

In her address, Minister Persaud highlighted the crucial role of collaboration among all stakeholders involved in tackling child abuse.

She stressed that effective communication and coordination are vital for improving awareness and response to these issues.

The symposium aimed to educate participants about referral pathways, responsible reporting, and the existing laws designed to protect children.

Minister Persaud reiterated the importance of respecting children’s rights, particularly as Guyana is a signatory to the Convention on Child Rights.

This year, the Ministry has addressed approximately 27,000 cases of child abuse, underscoring the urgent need for robust child protection measures.

Child Protection Week is being observed under the theme “Keeping every child safe, Committing to robust Child Protection.”
