A recent “mixer” hosted by British High Commissioner Jane Miller brought together professionals from Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The gathering aimed to identify strategies for addressing gaps and fostering growth within the country’s tourism industry.
The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH), a British accreditation firm, is currently in Guyana to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce to meet the needs of the growing tourism sector.
Action Invest Caribbean has been tasked by the government to oversee the training of participants in the GOAL program, facilitated by CTH.
Kamrul Baksh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, highlighted the significance of collaborations like this in advancing Guyana’s tourism sector.
He expressed optimism about the partnership between Action Invest and CTH, believing it will add significant value to all tourism stakeholders and contribute to the promotion of higher standards within the industry.
British High Commissioner Jane Miller, recognized as Guyana’s Tourism Ambassador, emphasized the importance of economic diversification for the country.
She welcomed the collaborative efforts between Guyana and the UK to develop robust human capital for the tourism sector, noting the potential for stronger human capital to unlock the country’s tourism potential.
The hotels awarded Gold Awardee status were also acknowledged for providing on-the-job training to participants of the tourism program.
Over 100 Goal Scholars are currently part of this ongoing program, which aims to enhance the skills and competencies of Guyanese individuals in the tourism and hospitality sector.
This collaboration reflects a concerted effort to elevate Guyana’s tourism industry by investing in human capital development and fostering partnerships between local and international stakeholders.
