Coastland Water Treatment Plant Expansion to Achieve 90% Coverage by 2025

The Ministry of Housing and Water is on track to meet its goal of 90% treated water coverage for residents along the coast by the end of 2025, marking a significant improvement from 2020, when only 52% of the population had access to treated water.

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Hon. Susan Rodrigues, shared that a strategic plan has been developed to ensure the expansion of treated water coverage, with the target set at 92% by 2025.

She emphasized that the government is committed to delivering measurable results for the country’s water infrastructure.

The Coastal Water Treatment Program, designed to boost coverage to 90%, includes the construction of seven large water treatment plants, 15 smaller plants, and upgrades to 12 existing plants nationwide.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve water access and quality for residents, while also preparing for future population growth.

In November 2024, the Ministry received a supplementary allocation of $1.9 billion to support these projects, which will help expand treated water coverage and ensure that the program delivers its objectives on time.

With these efforts, the Ministry of Housing and Water is working toward achieving its ambitious target, ensuring that the benefits of treated water will reach a broader population across the coastland.
