Guyana begun their strong start to the FIBA Caribbean Women’s Basketball Championship with a commanding 102–75 victory over The Bahamas on Wednesday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The win was powered by a 33-point performance from Amisha Ramlall, as the hosts put together a balanced offensive display and solid defensive execution.

Guyana jumped ahead early with a 32–25 first-quarter lead and maintained control throughout, outscoring the Bahamians in every period.

Ramlall said representing Guyana has been a dream fulfilled.

“Obviously we have some amazing players from across the world. It was an amazing opportunity to play with such talented players. Everyone contributed, and it was a really good start to the tournament and I can’t wait to compete against other teams with my teammates,” she explained.

Ruth Adams added 22 points, while Arshia and Ashna Ramlall each contributed 13 and 12, respectively, and Joy Adams-Brown registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.

Meanwhile, U.S.-based head coach Kenny Avent praised the team’s discipline and balance.

“We played well we shot the ball really well and defended hard,” Avent said. “The plan was to limit them to one shot per possession. We’ve got great balance with the Ramlall sisters who were able to stretch the defense.”

Guyana will return to action tonight at 20:30h when they face the U.S. Virgin Islands, while The Bahamas take on Suriname at 16:30h in the day’s opening fixture.
