CNOOC-Sponsored School Table Tennis Championship Set to Begin in January 2024

CNOOC School Championships set to serve off in the second week of January 2024

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is gearing up for the commencement of the CNOOC-sponsored Schools Table Tennis Championship, scheduled to start in the second week of January 2024.

Head of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe, confirmed to NCN Sport that the final preparations are underway to launch the regional competition across various school districts.

The tournament is designed to feature eleven independent regional championships in eight categories, including boys’ and girls’ singles, team boys, team girls, elite, and novices.

The grand finale will bring together the top players from each category in one venue for an exciting culmination of the competition.

CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited is the primary sponsor, contributing over four million Guyana dollars for the countrywide tournament.

Support is also extended by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports.

The inaugural championship aims to showcase and expose new talent on a national platform.

Additionally, the GTTA envisions re-establishing a school’s championship, fostering the development of school clubs that can grow through competition.

The ultimate goal is to create high-performance programs that, over time, will produce more table tennis Olympians for Guyana.

The upcoming championship is expected to provide a platform for young table tennis enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills, contribute to the sport’s growth, and potentially pave the way for future Olympians.
