The restoration of City Hall could be completed by the end of the first quarter of this year, according to Minister within the Ministry of Local Government, Anand Persaud.
However, he cautioned that certain complexities in the process could lead to further delays.
The historic structure, which dates back to 1889, is undergoing significant rehabilitation to preserve its architectural integrity.
One of the major challenges faced during the restoration has been sourcing materials that match the original structure, particularly timber of non-standard dimensions required for specific elements of the building.
Despite these setbacks, Persaud remains optimistic about the progress, stating that efforts are being made to address the supply issues and maintain the project’s momentum.
However, given the intricacies of historical preservation, the timeline for completion remains flexible.
The government has allocated approximately $770 million for the restoration, underscoring its commitment to preserving one of Guyana’s most iconic landmarks.
