Christopher Barnwell’s Dominant 155 Sets GCA Panthers’ Victory in SVC Precision Demerara Cricket Board Final

In a display of sheer dominance, Christopher Barnwell of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) smashed an impressive 155 runs, setting an imposing target for the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) Jaguars in the final of the SVC Precision Demerara Cricket Board’s senior inter-association championship.

Batting first, the GCA Panthers faced an early setback with the loss of opener Shemroy Barrington for just five runs.

However, Barnwell, a former West Indies all-rounder, showcased his prowess as he unleashed a barrage of boundaries and sixes, tormenting the Jaguars’ bowling attack.

His innings of 155 runs, embellished with eleven fours and thirteen sixes, was crafted at a remarkable strike rate of 238.

Partnering effectively with Raymond Perez, who contributed 76 runs from 46 balls, Barnwell propelled the Panthers to a formidable total of 240 for the loss of one wicket, with Aryan Persaud securing the sole dismissal.

In pursuit of 241 runs for victory, the Jaguars commenced their innings with determination but encountered regular setbacks, ultimately finishing at 156 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Despite valiant efforts from Mahendra Dhanpaul, who top-scored with 47 not out, Ushardeva Bagobin with 39, and Navindra Persaud with 18 runs, the Jaguars fell short of the target.

The GCA Panthers showcased a disciplined bowling performance, with Dwain Dick claiming figures of two for 20, Steven Sankar securing two for 23 runs, and Devon Lord bagging two for 31 runs.

With this victory, the GCA Panthers clinched the SVC Precision Demerara Cricket Board’s senior inter-association championship title, underscoring their dominance in the tournament.
