Christmas Day Babies at New Amsterdam Hospital

By Josiah Williams – December 26, 2024

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 6 and the New Amsterdam Hospital marked Christmas Day with the arrival of several newborns, including a set of twins, and the distribution of hampers to the mothers.

Ashley Hinds, a new mother, was originally expecting her twin boys in early January but was delighted when they arrived on Christmas Day.

She shared her experience, expressing her happiness and gratitude for the support she received during her delivery.

“I wasn’t expecting the babies until the second week in January, that was the original CS date. Anyhow, things happened, they came, and I’m happy,” said Ashley, reflecting on the unexpected yet joyous event.

She also praised the nurses and doctors for their care. “The nurses there were all so kind, gentle, spoke to you; doctors came and informed me of my condition and the babies’ condition. It was very nice, I have no complaints.”

Dr. Vineshri Khirodhar, the Regional Health Officer, highlighted that by early Christmas morning, the hospital had already welcomed four babies. “So far we have a total of four babies, and we would be expecting more babies throughout the course of the day. In the labour room, we have another three moms, and when the babies are delivered and healthy and comfortable, we will be handing over the rest of the hampers,” said Dr. Khirodhar.

The New Amsterdam Hospital was expecting 10 to 12 babies to be born on Christmas Day, with additional births anticipated from the Port Mourant, Mibikuri, and Skeldon Hospitals.

The hospital, along with the RDC, ensured that the mothers and their newborns were well taken care of, as part of a heartwarming celebration of life on Christmas Day.
