Christianburg/Wismar Dominates at Secondary School Athletics League Cross-Country

The Secondary School Athletics League’s cross-country event held at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday saw Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) dominate the competition, despite a strong performance by Golden Grove’s Kaymally Lacon in the boys’ feature race.

In the 5k boys’ Grade 10-11 race, Kaymally Lacon of Tutorial High School clinched first place with a time of 19 minutes and 35 seconds.

He was followed by Malachi Melville from CWSS, and Zackrey Favourite of Bygeval Secondary, who took third.

Bygeval’s Leroy Henry finished in fourth.

The girls’ Grade 10-11 4k race was a clean sweep for CWSS, with Alkila Blucher finishing first in 17 minutes and 42 seconds.

Her teammates Savannah Hyles, Shalona Mingo, and Shanelia Gould took the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.

In the boys’ 4k race for Grades 8-9, Mackenzie High School’s Ebo McNeil triumphed with a time of 14 minutes and 46 seconds, followed by Christianburg Wismar’s Bryson McBean and Omar Luther in second and third.

Joseph Charles of CWSS and Hajvaunte Adams from Mackenzie High rounded out the top five.

Akeem Blucher of CWSS emerged victorious in the boys’ 3k race for Grade 7, finishing in 12 minutes and 12 seconds.

His teammate, Omarion Peters, finished second, while Mackenzie High’s Kyle Nurse took third.

Golden Grove Secondary’s Amisa Brutus won the girls’ 3k race, with Christianburg Wismar’s Keyare Whitfield and Mackenzie High’s Tiffuann David finishing in second and third.

CWSS continued their dominance in the 2000-meter race for Grade 7 girls, sweeping the podium with Holiyann Jarvis taking first, Amiyah Johnson second, and Lynicia Barclay third.

In the team tally, Christianburg Wismar Secondary School claimed victory in five out of the six races, while Golden Grove secured the other win.
