The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is expanding employment opportunities across vulnerable communities in Guyana with the Community-based Employment Stimulation Project (CESP).
This initiative is designed to provide sustainable jobs through the production of concrete blocks, supporting the national housing drive.
Sherwin Greaves, CEO of CH&PA, emphasized the long-term vision of CESP at a recent training program, noting that it aims to guide participants from block-making to broader construction roles, such as building homes and roads.
“We want participants to progress through various stages in the construction sector,” he explained.
Greaves encouraged participants to maximize the benefits of the program, which includes training not only in production but also in managing finances and navigating key institutions like banks, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The current training, facilitated by JTW Management Institute Inc., includes participants from DeKendren, Den Amstel, and Sophia, with further sessions planned for other areas.
CH&PA’s Deputy Director of Community Development, Donell Bess-Bascom, and her team are contributing to the project, which aims to empower individuals to achieve self-reliance and economic stability.
Participants have welcomed the initiative, citing the program’s practical relevance to their daily challenges and its potential to enhance their livelihoods.
