In a significant gesture of solidarity and support, the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) of Guyana has received a generous donation valued at 100,000 US dollars from the Government of China.
This donation, aimed at bolstering Guyana’s disaster relief efforts, comprises four engines, four boats, and two amphibious vehicles.
The donation comes at a critical time, with the objective of enhancing the CDC’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to disasters, ensuring that assistance reaches affected individuals and communities promptly, regardless of their location.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its importance in mitigating the impact of disasters, particularly flooding, in Guyana.
He assured that the equipment would be utilized to alleviate the suffering of Guyanese citizens during times of crisis, underscoring the nation’s vulnerability to flooding due to its low-lying coastal geography.
Highlighting the collaborative spirit between nations in disaster prevention, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, lauded the donation as a testament to the power of international cooperation.
He expressed satisfaction that the Chinese donation would contribute significantly to disaster prevention and mitigation efforts in Guyana, reaffirming the commitment of the Chinese embassy to continue supporting the CDC in its endeavors.
The donation signifies a tangible manifestation of solidarity and partnership between the Governments of China and Guyana in addressing shared challenges, particularly in the realm of disaster management and relief.
As Guyana continues to fortify its resilience against natural disasters, the contribution from the Chinese Government stands as a testament to the strength of international collaboration in confronting common threats and fostering mutual assistance.
