-16 Guyanese students honoured

Sixteen students from across Guyana were honored today for their leadership skills.

They were recognized at the Chinese Embassy during the award ceremony for the Fifth China-Guyana Friendship Youth Leadership Competition.

Participants were tested in four areas – an oral presentation, a critique of an art piece, a physical fitness challenge and a community-based project.

The winners, all in Grades 8 to 10, came from schools including Wisburg Secondary, President’s College, Kato Secondary and Mackenzie High school.

One of this year’s winners shared details of his project, and a past winner reflected on her journey after winning.

Romarion Wolfe, a student of President’s College, said, “My project aimed to improve an unused area of my school by planting ornamental flowers in discarded tires. I wanted to make the space more attractive while also show how creative use can support sustainability learning and students responsibility.”

Meanwhile, Nitya Narine said, “In June 2026 I participated Guyana -china friendship society art competition, where I won for the teenage category and earned the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong.”

As initiatives like these continue, they not only strengthen the bond between Guyana and China but also give young people the chance and the opportunities to go further.

Each student honored today has shown that leadership can begin early, and with the right support, there is no limit to where it can lead.
