In a significant gesture of goodwill, China has donated medical equipment valued at $100,000 to enhance healthcare services in Guyana.
The equipment, valued at $100,000, is intended for use at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Linden Hospital Complex, and New Amsterdam Hospital.
Specifically, the equipment is designated for the screening of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and cancer, addressing critical healthcare needs in the country.
China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, highlighted the importance of this donation, emphasizing that it complements the efforts of the Chinese medical brigade of specialists currently assisting Guyana’s medical services.
The donated equipment includes HPV testing equipment, reagents, and cervical screening equipment, all of which are vital components for cancer screening programs.
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, who received the equipment on behalf of the Government of Guyana, expressed gratitude for the ongoing partnership between Guyana and China in the healthcare sector.
He underscored the significance of addressing cancer as a major health challenge in Guyana, particularly focusing on breast cancer and cervical cancer, which affect a significant number of women in the country.
Dr. Anthony emphasized the importance of not only raising awareness about cancer but also taking concrete actions to address the issue.
He highlighted the role of the donated equipment in supporting efforts to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Guyana.
This generous donation from China represents a significant boost to Guyana’s healthcare infrastructure, reaffirming the strong bond between the two countries in promoting public health and well-being.
