Guyanese table tennis Olympian, Chelsea Edghill, expressed frustration after a challenging round of 32 match against Mexico’s Yadira Silva at the Pan Am Games in Chile.
Edghill, who had been diligently preparing for the event, lost in straight sets, with Silva emerging victorious with scores of 11-4, 11-6, 11-4, and 11-8.
Following the match, Edghill reflected on her performance, attributing the loss to a lack of momentum.
She expressed disappointment after putting in extensive effort leading up to the games.
Edghill voiced her determination to continue working hard, emphasizing her belief in the progress she can make.
In the midst of the competition, Coach Idi Lewis expressed satisfaction with the performance of both Edghill and Shamar Britton.
He commended their competitiveness and acknowledged the effort they put forth.
In the Mixed Doubles event, Chelsea Edghill and Britton joined forces but faced a tough challenge from Hector Gatica and Mabelyn Enriquez of the Independent Athletes Team (Guatemala), ultimately losing 1-4.
On a separate note, in his opening singles clash in the round of 32, Shamar Britton encountered Daniel Gonzalez of Puerto Rico.
Despite the setback, the Guyanese athletes remain resilient and committed to representing their nation on the international stage.
