Two-time Olympian Chelsea Edghill and first-time competitor Raekwon Noel faced early exits in their respective events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Chelsea Edghill, competing in table tennis, was defeated by Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou.
Edghill lost the match 4-1.
Despite starting strong and leveling the score with a win in the second set, she ultimately fell short, losing the next three sets with scores of 9-11, 3-11, and 8-11.
This was Edghill’s second appearance at the Olympics, following her debut at the Tokyo Games.
Raekwon Noel, participating in the men’s 400m freestyle, finished in second place in his heat but did not advance to the next round.
Noel’s time was 4 minutes and 2.29 seconds, which, despite his best efforts, was not sufficient to progress.
Reflecting on his performance, the 18-year-old swimmer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete and is determined to return for future Games.
Upcoming events for Team Guyana include Akela Persaud competing in the 100m freestyle on July 30, Emanuel Archibald in the men’s 100m race on August 3, and Aliyah Abrams in the women’s 400m on August 5.
