Cheddi Jagan International Airport Surpasses One Million Passenger Milestone

By Delicia Janneire | January 4, 2025

Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has successfully processed over one million passengers by the end of 2024, surpassing the target set by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who had predicted the milestone would be achieved by 2025.

This achievement was shared by Ramesh Ghir, CEO of CJIA, during a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Public Works earlier today.

Ghir provided insights into the progress of the airport’s operations, highlighting a significant increase in passenger traffic.

CJIA recorded a 30% increase in passenger numbers compared to 2019, which saw nearly 660,000 passengers.

In 2023, the airport processed 1,072,785 passengers, marking a 15% growth from the previous year, when 930,000 passengers were processed.

The CEO also discussed the airport’s efforts to address passenger concerns.

A total of 499 complaints were received, with 81% of these issues resolved.

These included complaints related to luggage, laptops, mobile phones, and travel documents, as well as lost valuables like cash and jewelry, which could not be disclosed.

This significant milestone underscores the growing demand for air travel to and from Guyana, reflecting both the country’s increased connectivity and the expanding tourism and business sectors.
