The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) witnessed an intense evening of doubles action at the National Racquet Center on Tuesday night.
In the first match of the tournament, Osafa Dos Santos and Patrice Stewart secured a convincing victory over Elishaba Johnson and Randy Oodit, showcasing their prowess in the novice medley doubles category with a 6-1 win.
The second match featured the 2022 GBTI Mixed Doubles Champions, Kizzy Richmond and Leyland Leacock, who displayed exceptional skill and experience to defeat Tisel Patterson and Surendra Khayyam 6-1, 6-2.
Leacock, in a post-match interview, attributed their success to sticking to the basics and drawing on their wealth of experience in the sport.
Despite the loss, debutant Tisel Patterson expressed optimism and highlighted the learning experience gained from their first doubles competition, emphasizing the importance of communication and teamwork for future matches.
However, the highlight of the evening was the epic three-hour battle in the third match, where former Men’s Doubles Champions Sandeep Chand and Andre Lopes overcame juniors Navindra Arjune and Nathan DeNobrega.
The match stretched to three sets, with Chand and Lopes eventually emerging victorious with a scoreline of 7/5, 4/6, and 6/3.
The GTA Doubles Championship continues throughout the week, promising more thrilling matches and intense competition as players vie for supremacy on the court.
