The National Defence Institute (NDI) hosted a cybersecurity workshop over the weekend, bringing together CEOs and industry leaders to enhance awareness and strengthen systems against cyber threats.
The event, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, emphasized the importance of robust public-private partnerships in safeguarding Guyana’s growing digital landscape.
Dr. Randy Persaud, Director of the NDI, highlighted the institute’s critical role in bolstering Guyana’s digital security capabilities through training and capacity building.
He described the NDI as a cornerstone of the nation’s resilience against emerging cybersecurity threats.
Colonel Sheldon Howell, Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), underscored the need for a cohesive national strategy to address cybersecurity risks.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in establishing a secure digital infrastructure.
Assistant Director of the NDI, Dr. Seon Levius, shed light on cyber operations targeting Guyana, including disinformation campaigns, ransomware attacks, and phishing schemes orchestrated by Venezuela.
He assured attendees that Guyana is prepared to counter such threats effectively.
The workshop featured presentations from the National Data Management Authority (NDMA), the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), and cybersecurity experts from Guyana and the wider Caribbean.
These sessions offered valuable insights into strategies for mitigating cyber risks and protecting national assets.
The NDI, established under the leadership of President Irfaan Ali, continues to expand Guyana’s defence and digital security capabilities, ensuring the nation remains resilient in an increasingly connected world.
