Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) to Launch First Ramadan Village in Guyana

In an unprecedented move, the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) is set to launch the first-ever Ramadan Village in Guyana.

The initiative, spearheaded by the CIOG in collaboration with the Islamic Trust and the Muslim Youth Organization, aims to create awareness about Islam and the significance of the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

Shaikh Moeen-ul-Hack, Director of the CIOG, emphasized the spiritual importance of Ramadan and highlighted the objectives of the Ramadan Village.

He explained that the village would provide an opportunity for all Guyanese to experience the spiritual ambiance of Ramadan, fostering an environment for families to gather, share meals, pray together, and engage in educational activities.

The Ramadan Village will be officially inaugurated by President Irfaan Ali on Monday afternoon at the MYO ground on Woolford Avenue.

The Guyana Tourism Authority, represented by Director Kamral Baksh, has also arranged for a special Islamic Heritage Tour titled ‘Discovering Islamic Culture and Religion’ in conjunction with the event.

Additionally, the Ramadan Village will feature a series of master classes on the creation of Muslim sweetmeats, allowing participants to learn traditional techniques and recipes under the guidance of seasoned facilitators.

Various booths will showcase different aspects of Islamic teachings, including garments, literature, local and international cuisine, and a dedicated children’s play area.

This groundbreaking initiative by the CIOG marks a significant step in promoting understanding and appreciation of Islamic culture and traditions in Guyana.

It is expected to provide a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and community engagement during the holy month of Ramadan.
