Celebrating Unity and Love at Phagwah Festival

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, emphasized the significance of unity and love during the Phagwah celebrations, highlighting that these values extend beyond a single day.

Hosted by the Indian High Commission, hundreds of Guyanese gathered at the GCC ground to partake in the colorful festival of ‘Holi,’ symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

People from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and ages came together, singing, dancing, and joyfully splashing colorful powder in the air and on each other.

During the celebrations, the symbolic meanings of different colors were highlighted, with red representing love and passion, yellow embodying optimism and new beginnings, green signifying growth and harmony with nature, and blue representing calmness and peace.

First Secretary of the Indian High Commission, Manoj Kumar, expressed the significance of the vibrant festivities in fostering unity and joy among communities.

Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of embracing positivity and goodness while living together in peace and unity.

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and Prime Minister Brig. Ret’d Mark Phillips joined in the festivities at the Georgetown Cricket Club, further emphasizing the spirit of togetherness and celebration.

As the colorful powder filled the air and hearts swelled with joy, the Phagwah celebrations served as a beautiful reminder of the power of unity and love to bring people together in harmony.
