As Guyanese citizens grapple with the scorching heat and its manifold impacts, the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is actively engaged in relief efforts.
A key focus for the CDC is to partner with the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) to guarantee continued access to water, particularly in the areas hardest hit by the El Niño-induced dry season.
Colonel Nazrul Hussain, the Director General of the CDC, highlighted the challenges faced by communities reliant on creeks as their primary water source.
To address this, the CDC has been working in collaboration with GWI and the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) along the highway.
Efforts have been focused on supplying potable water to affected villages, with special emphasis on essential public facilities like health centers and schools.
Colonel Hussain also offered practical recommendations to help the public navigate through this arid season.
As temperatures continue to rise, causing damage to crops and the depletion of surface water, the CDC remains committed to disseminating crucial information through various channels, including social media networks and educational sessions.
Additionally, the implementation of targeted actions is underway to mitigate the adverse effects of the dry season.
