In a move to enhance the Caribbean’s response to future pandemics, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has secured support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The collaboration is formalized through the signing of a Pandemic Fund Technical Cooperation agreement between the two entities.
The initiative aims to assist CARPHA in mitigating the public health impact of potential pandemics across the Caribbean region.
It focuses on reinforcing pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response capabilities.
Dr. Joy St. John, the Executive Director of CARPHA, commended the project as a significant milestone, emphasizing its role in building and strengthening the health systems of the region.
Dr. Priya Basu, Executive Head of the Pandemic Fund at the IDB, expressed the goal of aiding countries and regions in better preparation for future pandemics.
The urgency of the task was underscored by Dr. Basu, emphasizing the need for swift and effective measures.
Implementation of the project is set to commence immediately, as announced by Dr. St. John.
