Guyanese powerlifter Carlos Petterson-Griffith received a hero’s welcome upon his return home following his exceptional performance at the World Open Classic Powerlifting Championship in Lithuania.
Petterson-Griffith, competing in the men’s 83kg category, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record with a squat of 337.5 kg.
His total lift of 860 kg secured him fourth place overall in the competition.
Upon arriving back in Guyana, Petterson-Griffith was greeted warmly by Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, officials from the National Sports Commission, and members of the local powerlifting community.
He expressed gratitude for the support that helped him overcome challenges during his preparation and competition.
Petterson-Griffith emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on goals despite the obstacles faced in the pursuit of athletic excellence.
