Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley emphasized the pressing need for improved management skills both on and off the cricket field during his address at the opening ceremony of the CARICOM cricket conference.
Dr. Rowley underscored the growing impatience within the region regarding the state of West Indies cricket, prompting CARICOM’s intervention to help restore Caribbean cricket to its former glory.
He highlighted the downturn in cricket and stressed the urgency of reclaiming the region’s position at the pinnacle of the sporting world.
Dr. Rowley emphasized the importance of understanding the intricacies of managing the sport effectively for the region to achieve success on the international stage.
Acknowledging the need for introspection, Dr. Rowley urged stakeholders to recognize their role in failing to nurture the unique Caribbean brand of cricket over the years.
Furthermore, Dr. Rowley called for the renegotiation of the contract with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), emphasizing that revisiting the terms is essential to kick-starting the development process of the game in the region.
The prime minister’s remarks underscored the necessity of addressing management issues, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and reinvigorating West Indies cricket for future success.
