The 2023 edition of the Caribbean Development Championship Games was inaugurated on Friday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago.
President of the Trinidad and Tobago Archery Federation, Hasmath Ali, extended a warm welcome to athletes from the region, marking the fifth installment of the championship.
This year’s event has drawn substantial participation, with 170 archers competing across beginner, developmental, and amateur categories.
Ali highlighted that the championship, conceived a decade ago, was specifically tailored for the English-speaking Caribbean, focusing on the holistic development of athletes in the region.
Over the years, the championship has expanded to include teams from the USA, Latin America, and the wider Caribbean.
Archery Guyana has fielded a formidable team, led by national coaches Nicholas Hing and Robert Singh.
The squad, consisting of 17 athletes including Umasankar Madray, Jeewanram Persaud, Samira Duncan, Roshini Boodhoo, Julie Ann Williams, Saeed Karim, and Bibi Salim, is poised for a strong showing.
Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, representing Archery Guyana’s Board of Directors, extended well-wishes to all participants and encouraged them to strive for victory.
