Twenty-one residents from Berbice recently participated in a capacity building workshop organized by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The workshop, held in Region Six, focused on enhancing skills related to project development, co-financing, and budgeting, among other critical topics.

The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary expertise to lead local development projects that promote environmental sustainability.

Devin Sears, Chairman of the Region Ten Tourism Committee, highlighted that the session specifically targeted individuals representing various organizations within the region.

He emphasized the importance of community-driven projects that contribute to a greener environment.

During the workshop, Devin Sears explained that the program aimed to guide participants in successfully applying for grants, with up to $10,000 USD available for eligible projects.

He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from across the region.

Marissa Charles, National Coordinator of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program in Guyana, underscored the positive impact of the initiative.

She noted that over 30 projects have already been funded through the program across all ten administrative regions in Guyana.

The capacity building session not only increased awareness but also fostered active participation among local community members eager to leverage support for their developmental initiatives.
