The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has reported a total of 117 arrests for drug related offenses during 2025, with 62 persons charged and a total of 29-drug related convictions secured.

According to CANU, approximately 82 per cent of all these arrests were male, a figure consistent with global drug crime patterns. Arrests peaked during April, May, July and September.

Of the drug related convictions, 14 were for cocaine and 12 were for cannabis. There were three convictions related to synthetic drugs, including ecstasy/cannabis products. Fines ranged up to $311 Million.

CANU also reported that 726.3 kilograms in cannabis was seized, 235.9 kilograms of cocaine, 674 grams of ecstasy, in addition to 83 grams of meth and 9.16 grams of cannabis products. Region Four dominated cocaine seizures, while cannabis seizures were concentrated in Region Six. The drug seizures had an estimated street value of up to $433.9 Million.

“Cocaine and cannabis remained the two dominant threats, representing the majority of trafficking attempts into and through Guyana. A major reduction in cocaine quantities compared to 2024 is linked to a single extraordinary seizure that occurred in Region One the previous year,” CANU further explained
