The President of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle, announced the cancellation of the Terrence Ali National Open due to scheduling challenges.
However, an Elite Development Championship is set to take place on Friday at the National Gymnasium as an alternative.
Ninvalle highlighted that the boxing card for the National Gymnasium is primarily aimed at providing essential training and bouts for Guyana’s boxers aspiring to qualify for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
The Terrence Ali National Open faced postponements initially from December 2023 to January 2024 due to issues with two of the top gyms.
Ninvalle expressed regret over the cancellation but emphasized their commitment to ensuring senior boxers receive the necessary competition.
The Guyana Boxing Association had recently initiated its competition season with the Pepsi Michael Parris U16 Boxing Championship, won by Rose Hall Jammers.
The upcoming Elite Development Championship aims to further support the development and preparation of Guyana’s boxing talents.
