Calvin Burnette Crowned 2024 Soca Monarch in Linden Showdown

In a night of electrifying performances and fierce competition, Calvin Burnette, known as the “Handyman” singer, emerged victorious as the 2024 Soca Monarch in Linden.

With an impressive score of 277 points, Burnette captivated the judges and energized the crowd with his spirited performance.

Diana Chapman claimed the second spot with her captivating rendition of “Grey,” earning overwhelming support from her hometown audience.

During her performance, Chapman took a moment to honor 72-year-old university graduate Pamela Mason, presenting her with a plaque in recognition of her inspiring achievement.

Sharing the second position was the dynamic Osei Clarke, also known as OKC, with his infectious hit “Ah Gone Already.” Osbert “Vintage” Cain secured fourth place with his rendition of “Space.”

The battle of vibes and lyrics unfolded at the Linden Bus Park, as the Ministry of Youth Culture and Sport hosted both the Junior and Adult Soca Monarch competitions for the first time in the mining town.

Berbician Calvin Burnette’s victory marks a significant moment in the town’s cultural landscape.

In the Junior category, Vinel Hinds clinched the title of Junior Soca Monarch with her lively performance of “Calling My Name,” following her earlier triumph as Calypso crown holder.

Theodora “Kyra” Dehnert secured the second position, with Teija Edwards in third and Angel Ellis and Ishmel Griffith sharing the fourth spot with 243 points.

The event showcased the vibrant talent and energy of Guyana’s soca artists, further solidifying the nation’s position as a hub of musical creativity and expression.
