Calvin Brutus and Adonika Aulder Withdraw Second High Court Action

November 11, 2024

Assistant Police Commissioner of the Guyana Police Force, Calvin Brutus, and his wife, Adonika Aulder, have officially withdrawn a second set of proceedings they filed in the High Court.

The couple had initiated the legal action on August 19, 2024, against the Head of the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU), the Commissioner of Police, and the Attorney General.

The case involved an application to have a previous court order, which froze their bank accounts, set aside.

The withdrawal of the proceedings was made orally by their Attorney-at-Law during the hearing held on Friday.

This marks the second time that Mr. Brutus and Ms. Aulder have filed legal proceedings, only to later withdraw them.

In an earlier case, the couple had sought permission to leave the jurisdiction for alleged medical treatment for Ms. Aulder.

However, the application was dismissed by Justice Gino Persaud, who also ordered them to pay costs of 250,000 dollars each to the Attorney General, Commissioner of Police, and SOCU.

As of now, these costs remain unpaid, and if they are not settled within the six-week period stipulated by the court, further legal action will be taken by the Attorney General’s Chambers.
