At the 38th Caribbean Association of Law Libraries (CARALL) conference, Senior Legal Adviser at the Attorney General Chambers, Chevy Devonish, underscored the critical need for digitalization and collaboration among regional law libraries.
These efforts are aimed at enhancing legal research, capacity building, and service excellence.
Legal research is fundamental in the constantly evolving legal landscape.
However, in Guyana, despite the presence of four law libraries, many legal professionals, students, and members of the public still struggle to access these resources.
To address this issue, Devonish is advocating for the adoption of digital technologies and stronger collaboration between regional law libraries.
He emphasized the importance of these measures in providing comprehensive and accessible legal information to all users.
Myrna Douglas, President of CARALL, stressed the importance of staying abreast of global developments in the legal field.
She pointed out that law librarians must embrace new technologies to offer practical and up-to-date information to their users.
Douglas emphasized that this approach is vital for the continued relevance and effectiveness of law libraries in the Caribbean.
Established in 1984, CARALL has been instrumental in the distribution of legal information across the region, addressing acquisition policies, and fostering cooperation among law libraries.
This year, after 34 years, CARALL’s conference is being hosted in Guyana for three days at the Pegasus Hotel, marking a significant event for the regional legal community.
