The 2026 National Budget delivers wide-ranging and tangible benefits for ordinary Guyanese across the country.

So says President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who, pushed back against opposition claims that the Budget is not people-centred.

The president in a live broadcast earlier today emphasised that the financial plan is packed with a ‘slew of measures’ designed to improve the quality of life for families, workers, young people and senior citizens.

We have increased in the low income mortgage ceiling, who does this benefit-low income home owners,  middle income home owners, young professionals who can burrow  a loan of 30 million…how does’ this not translate to benefit,” he said.

He said the rise in old-age pension represents a 5.7-billion-dollar direct transfer to senior citizens, in addition to the annual transportation grant.

The Head of State also pointed to the continuation of the ‘Because We Care’ cash grant which offers additional benefits to families.

“The introduction of  new annual transportation grant for our children almost 4.1 billion, when you add that to the because we care grant it’s close to 18 billion dollars in transfer to our children,” the president added.

Additional measures outlined include bonuses for members of the Joint Services, increase in the income tax threshold and the continuation of the $100,000 cash grant.

President Ali accused the Opposition of attempting to mislead the public and derail national development through what he described as a negative agenda.

He is therefore urging Guyanese to remain vigilant and to examine the facts surrounding the budget.
