Member of Parliament Seepaul Narine asserts that Budget 2024 is a significant victory for the working class, introducing measures that safeguard and advance the lives of workers and their families.

Narine’s comments come in response to Opposition MP Maureen Philadelphia, who criticized the government’s fiscal package, claiming it fails to meet the basic needs of ordinary citizens.

Narine, a government MP, dismisses the opposition’s statements as reckless and unfounded, urging them to recognize the prosperity that the $1.146 trillion fiscal package holds for Guyanese citizens.

He highlights the increase in the income tax threshold to $100,000 as a particularly significant intervention.

As a trade unionist, Narine emphasizes the positive aspects of Budget 2024, pointing to the sugar industry as one of the bright spots.

He notes that since 2020, the industry has experienced growth, contrasting its condition under the previous APNU/AFC government.

One notable accomplishment highlighted by Narine is the reopening of the Rose Hall Estate, which was closed by the previous coalition government in 2015.

He describes this year’s budget as a massive investment in citizens, assuring them of a better future under the People’s Progressive Party Civic government.
